Circulation Information for UW Faculty, Staff and Students

Please note: Wisconsin residents not affiliated with the UW should use Wisconsin's Water Library.

Loan and Renewal Periods
All materials except the current issues of journals and newsletters circulate. The loan period for all UW System faculty and staff is December 30 or May 30 with six renewals. The loan period for all UW System students and all other UW patron categories is 28 days with two renewals.

How to Check Out Materials
UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff may use their valid university ID to borrow materials online or in person. UW System faculty, staff and students can request UW-Madison materials through your home institution's online catalog. You may also charge UW-Madison materials in person using your university ID card. All others should contact the library.

Return of Library Materials
Campus library users may return UW-Madison library books to a campus library other than the one from which they were borrowed through a service called Open Return. The Water Resources Library participates in Open Return and campus users may return our materials to any participating library.  Please remember that Open Return applies primarily to books.  Other materials should be returned directly to the owning library.
